Financial Literacy
A total of 4300 low and middle-income adults received financial literacy training in 2007 as a result of the partnership between the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise and HSBC-North America. Since the partnership began five years ago, CNE and HSBC have brought financial literacy education to more than 12,000 adults.
CNE Training Director Charles Perry reports that 130 Your Money Counts workshops were held in 2007, reaching 3,726 adults. Each workshop lasted five hours and focused on three topics, chosen from a list which includes identify theft, managing money, using credit, credit history, homeownership, and banking.
The workshops are hosted and led by local leaders of community organizations in CNE’s network throughout the country, who receive train-the-trainer instruction from CNE and HSBC. Forty-one community-based organizations in 18 states and the District of Columbia hosted the 2007 workshops.
In addition to the workshops, CNE and HSBC conducted 20 intensive six-part seminar series for groups of from 25-30 people. A total of 574 adults completed the seminar series.
