Financial Literacy

The Center for Neighborhood Enterprise partners with HSBC-North America to bring adult financial literacy education to low and middleincome adults. From 2006 through 2009, 22,484 adults received training with the HSBC/CNE Your Money Counts curriculum. In 2009, 150 workshops were held with a total of 6,197 adults participating.

Topics covered in the workshops include Banking, Credit History, Homeownership, Identity Theft, Managing Your Money, Managing Your Mortgage, Using Credit, and Borrowing Basics.

The workshops are implemented by community-based organizations in each locale, with assistance from CNE and HSBC. A total of 61 community organizations have hosted workshops over the past four years. In 2009, trainings were held in 17 states and the District of Columbia. The states were Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.

CNE has provided financial literacy education to a total of more than 25,000 adults since 2002 when the Center first formed a partnership with Household International, a predecessor organization of HSBC-North America.
