



CNE's Weed and Seed
Youth Leadership Development Program
Weed and Seed is a U.S. Department of Justice program with the goals of preventing, reducing, and controlling violent crime, drug trafficking, and drug-related activity in high crime neighborhoods, and providing a safe crime-free and drug-free environment for residents. With law enforcement providing the "weed," community organizations provide the "seed" of intervention and prevention programs in the community.
The Center for Neighborhood Enterprise was selected by the U.S. Department of Justice to build the capacities of the faith-based and community organizations that participate in the Weed and Seed program, providing regional technical assistance workshops for help adults explore ways to encourage and retain youth leaders to participate in civic and community affairs in their local communities.
CNE has hosted Summer Youth Leadership Camps in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 to help young people develop the skills to identify and help promote solutions in their own communities. The Summer Youth Leadership Camps instruct youth on the techniques to know and understand risk factors and problems behaviors that prevent youth from positive growth and development. The Center also has facilitated the creation of a National Youth Leadership Council, which has met twice in
